Your family guide
“Skip the water parks: Torremolinos works because you can walk from golden sand to chiringuitos grilling fresh fish, then back to your hotel in twenty minutes.”
— San & Jo
Torremolinos is one of those places that just works for families. Nestled on the Costa del Sol in Andalusia, southern Spain, it packs in six golden sandy beaches, a massive water park, a crocodile park, botanical gardens, and a lively pedestrian street into one easy, walkable resort town. If your family loves the beach and wants plenty to do on rainy afternoons or rest days, this is your spot.
Originally a small fishing village, Torremolinos grew into one of Spain's most popular seaside destinations, and that history still shows in neighbourhoods like La Carihuela, where chiringuitos line the promenade and the smell of fresh pescaíto drifts off the grill. The town has a warm, welcoming energy that makes it easy to settle in quickly, whether you are chasing toddlers across the sand or exploring with curious teenagers.
What really sets Torremolinos apart is its location. Málaga, Mijas Pueblo, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, and even the dramatic hilltop town of Ronda are all within easy reach, making it a brilliant base if your family wants to mix beach days with a bit of Andalusian adventure.
Best things to do
La Carihuela Beach
This is the beach most families fall in love with. Stretching around 2,100 metres, La Carihuela has fine sand, calm clear water, and a promenade packed with chiringuitos serving fresh seafood. Every 16 July, the neighbourhood comes alive for the Fair of El Carmen, with a beautiful procession of the Virgin out to sea.
Aqualand Torremolinos
The largest water park on the Costa del Sol, Aqualand covers a full day for any family. From the heart-stopping Kamikaze slide to gentle lazy rivers and landscaped gardens, different levels of bravery find their match. Kids rarely want to leave.
Torremolinos Crocodile Park
An unexpected surprise for a beach resort town. The Crocodile Park lets your family get up close to large crocodiles amid lush ponds and winding paths. Kids who are into reptiles will be absolutely buzzing, and it makes for a great alternative on a hot midday break from the beach.
Parque de la Batería
This 74,000 sqm green park is a local favourite and completely free. There is a man-made lake with boat rentals, fountains, playgrounds, running tracks, and a 15-metre mirador tower with 360-degree views over the sea and town. It is a lovely spot to let younger children run free while you catch your breath.
Calle San Miguel
This bustling pedestrian street is the beating heart of Torremolinos. Lined with shops, cafés, and ice cream stops, it winds its way down toward Playa de Bajondillo. Look out for the Torre de Pimentel, a 14th-century watchtower tucked in nearby, which gives you a quick history lesson between scoops.
Molino de Inca Botanical Garden
Most visitors never find this one, which is exactly why you should. The Molino de Inca Botanical Garden is a peaceful spot with lush plants and historic mills that give a glimpse into Torremolinos before the resort era. It is a lovely, calm contrast to the beach buzz.
Day trips to Málaga, Mijas, and Ronda
One of Torremolinos's biggest strengths is its location. Málaga is just down the coast for world-class museums and tapas. Mijas Pueblo is a whitewashed hilltop village the whole family will love. And Ronda, with its jaw-dropping gorge and historic bullring, is one of the most dramatic towns in all of Andalusia.

Fun facts
Third largest Pride in Spain
Torremolinos holds its own Pride event every June, now ranking as the third largest in Spain. The town even co-hosted World Pride in 2017 alongside Madrid, making it one of the most welcoming and inclusive resort destinations on the Costa del Sol.
From fishing village to famous resort
Before the beach clubs and water parks arrived, Torremolinos was a quiet fishing village. That heritage still lives on in La Carihuela, where you can watch fishing boats come in and eat the catch the same day at a chiringuito right on the sand.
A 700-year-old watchtower in the middle of town
The Torre de Pimentel, standing near Calle San Miguel, was built in the 14th century to watch for pirates and invaders along the coast. Today it stands quietly among the ice cream shops and souvenir stalls, a small but brilliant reminder that this town has a long story to tell.
